There has been a lot of talk (like, enough already!) about the migration of sales from physical to online stores but not much discussion about how to engage with the customer beyond collect his or her email and sending him or her periodic, unasked for product pushes. The assumption is s/he is happily shedding all the trappings that come with visiting an actual store because buying online saves time and offers more choices.
The news this week of Slack-based online sneaker community SoleSavy receiving $2 million in funding is an indication the consumer wants to do more than just buy things, he or she wants to be part of a community that celebrates the joy of a shared hunt, a cracked code while also providing a shoulder to cry on through the agony of an L.
