Citing zero sources other than “I’ve heard,” The Sun’s columnist Simon Boyle claimed last week that Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) will take over the role of Louis Vuitton creative director.
While I’m all for Ye taking over the position, there are a couple of reasons why I don’t think it will happen. No. 1: During “Drink Champs,” Ye made quite a few cutting comments about LV and Abloh, which wouldn’t make sense if he was part of what were all but certain high level discussions in recent months about who would take on the role of creative director once Virgil Abloh passed.
No. 2: Having spent a lot of time over the past couple of weeks listening to interviews with Abloh, there are a handful of fashion creatives he repeatedly highlighted in more recent interviews as super talents he hoped to see further elevated and Ye wasn’t among them.
