Nike throughout 2020 has ramped up SNKRS video and live events, including recent appearances by Tinashe as well as Ambush designer Yoon Ahn and actress Karrueche. Clearly, it’s a marketing effort to reinforce the push to direct but it’s also a pivot away from prominent social media apps like Instagram and TikTok where video content and live conversations are typically hosted. (Side note: Last night on our weekly Streetwear News show on Clubhouse, we debated whether a music creative like Tinashe, who was dropped by her label in 2019, was paid by Nike or paid Nike to appear on the app. Given Nike’s reach and prestige, it’s not an unfair question!)
