Music creative Frank Ocean launches luxury label Homer kicking things off with a collection of jewelry and silk scarves with catalog images showing an upcoming Prada collab. As part of the effort, Ocean has built his own U.S. based diamond lab. Merchandise will only be available at the store and by shopping the catalog and placing an order by phone (quaint!).
Putting news of the launch aside, clearly we are in an era defined by A-list musicians using their creativity and fame to launch various brands. It’s worth noting that the ones who have achieved billionaire status, Rihanna, Kanye West, Jay-Z, all did so through enterprises outside of the music industry, which continues to leave the talent responsible for their sales out of the lion’s share of revenue.
Adidas sells Reebok to Authentic Brands Group for $2.5 billion, significantly lower than the $3.8 billion it paid for it in 2006. Reebok accounted for 6.6 percent of Adidas’ sales in 2020.
