I had the honor of paying a visit to Sockjig’s Sneaker Podcast (Spotify link) where myself and my neighbor from the North discussed the current challenges faced by Nike and Adidas and the niche status of women's streetwear. We also chatted about the three keys to a brand's success, and of course we had to discuss the topic du jour in sneaker world: James Whitner and Nike, plus my trip to Los Angeles to attend ComplexCon that included a visit to Erewhon Market, where I did some sneaker spotting (see images below) which should have Nike execs concerned.
During the podcast, I also talked about the fact that I’m not a member of the Church of Newness, a collective whose members obsess over brand innovation or lack thereof. Personally, I think homerun designs don’t come around very often and when they do, they not only can endure for years but sometimes for decades.
